What the role is
The senior technical lead on a UNDP project in Iraq dealing with persistent organic pollutants (POPs), PCBs, obsolete pesticides and chemically contaminated sites. The project strengthens national frameworks, updates chemical inventories, builds capacity and plans remediation. The specialist owns technical quality: setting review gates, checking inventories and site assessments, overseeing laboratory and sampling data, leading environmental and social safeguards in line with World Bank frameworks, and supporting partnerships and resource mobilisation. The post sits in UNDP’s Nature, Climate and Energy practice under the Regional Bureau for Arab States.
Who can apply
Open to internal and external candidates, with no nationality restriction stated. You need a master’s in environmental engineering, environmental science, chemistry or a related field with seven years of progressively responsible experience (or a bachelor’s with nine), including documented work on POPs inventories, Stockholm Convention plans, PCB management or contaminated-site clean-up. English is required; Arabic and previous Iraq or Arab-region experience count in your favour.
What you get
A one-year International Personnel Service Agreement at level IPSA-11. Pay is not published, and the posting names Iraq without a specific city.
How to apply
