What the role is
A senior engineering role on the Content Platform team at the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit that hosts Wikipedia. The team supports and evolves wikitext, the markup language behind every Wikipedia article, so the work is about designing and delivering improvements to the parsing and content-processing infrastructure that millions of editors rely on. The job is mostly remote, with a preferred working time zone of GMT-4 to GMT+2.
Who can apply
This is where most readers in our region should look carefully. There is no nationality rule, but you must live in one of the listed hiring countries or US states, and Morocco is the only Arab country on that list. The posting asks for 5+ years of professional software engineering, experience with parser generators, interpreters, language runtimes or compilers, ownership of complex projects from definition to delivery, reliable and performant component design, strong unit and integration testing habits, cross-team work and mentoring.
What you get
Remote work in an organisation with staff in more than 40 countries. The only pay range published is for US-based applicants (US$116,633 to US$181,243 a year); for other countries, including Morocco, Wikimedia says pay is adjusted to the country of hire.
How to apply
Apply through the form on Wikimedia’s Greenhouse board. Applying is free.
